National Trademark Expo Set for USPTO Campus May 8-9

The United States Patent and Trademark Office will present a National Trademark Expo May 8 and 9. A ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. will kick off the two day event. The Expo will be held on the agency’s campus in Alexandria, Virginia. at 600 Dulany Street in the atrium of the Madison Building. Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. The Expo is free, fun and informative for the whole family.

The Expo will feature exciting colorful interactive exhibits that illustrate the pervasive and important role trademarks play in our economy. Visitors will learn about the many different kinds of trademarks such as sound, design and color, and will also learn about the history and evolution of trademarks, some of which are more than 100 years old. Iconic trademarked characters like the Pillsbury Doughboy, Hershey’s Kiss, and Sprout will make appearances during the two day event. They will be joined by the USPTO’s Trademark Expo character, T.Markey.

Companies exhibiting at the Expo include Travelers, the Hershey Company, Callaway Golf and UPS among others. A complete list of the exhibitors and a description of their exhibit is available at

In addition to Trademark Exhibitors, local businesses will also participate in the Expo. For example, Hooray For Books of Alexandria will present a Story Time especially for children.

The Expo will highlight anti-counterfeiting efforts and how counterfeit goods cause great harm to the economy. Counterfeit goods not only cost American businesses billons of dollars annually, but they also undermine consumer confidence in brand integrity when purchasers encounter knock-off goods of inferior quality.

The USPTO campus is a 10-minute walk from the King Street Metro, which serves the blue and yellow rail lines. There is first-come, first-served parking on the USPTO campus and at the nearby Hoffman Center on Eisenhower Avenue.
